Using our studio in daylight

27th January 2017
It's all fine and well buying big studio lights and softboxes, but we should never get too far away from using what beautiful, natural light we come across.
We're fortunate at GWS Photography, that we have a whole glass front to our building, so when we want to we can shoot portraits all with what nature gives us.

So to show this, I enlisted one of my recent wedding couples - the lovely Lindzi & Max - who spent an hour with me on a Saturday recently to sit in the sunshine in our studio.

The way we set up gave us a huge wrap around soft light, and there's something almost like shooting with film that slows this process down... you feel like you can just sit in the sunshine and pose your subjects slower.

With that in mind, I finished my favourite photos off with a grainy film look.

This is definitely a style of shoot I'd be happy to do more often, and so long as it's daytime there's no reason why not.

If you'd like a studio shoot, check out our Portraits Page above for more info.

All the photos here were shot on my ever faithful Fuji XPro2 and a standard 35mm lens.
